PRESIDENT BEN CARSON, HOW'S THAT SOUND?

Weekly Standard Asks If Dr. Ben Carson Is Warming Up For Presidential Run?

Evidently his answer is yes! Good!

I have a dream.

For various reasons I have a dream that his man will soon be addressed by some young, nervous journalist in a press conference by: "Dr. President, sir…"

That may sound weird to my former Adventist friends. How could I, knowing all I do about how Adventists think, want one as head of our nation?

Firstly out of sheer pragmatism. He's ardently, fervently pro-life and I could care less about our theological differences if he is willing to stop the slaughter of our unborn. As a world-acclaimed physician, his voice would hold authority on biological life and as a black man, he could stem the abortion genocide against his own race.

Secondly, I'm patriotic. Dr. Carson would make a terrific president. So yes, I would not only vote for, but pray for and financially back a Dr. Carson presidency.

Thirdly, I am a Catholic who does not want to support Obamacare on religious grounds and I believe he would be very strong in his commitment to religious freedom. (Anyone see the irony here? A SDA defending Catholic religious freedom? Ellen White is clapping in Purgatory!)

Additionally, to my former Adventists out there, think of the brilliance of a Dr. Carson presidency. Let us dream for a moment, shall we?….

Carson: The Candidacy

For several years during the campaign, the Seventh-day Adventist Church would get the spotlight. They would become the center of the world's attention, just as their prophecy foretells. Many Adventists would see it as God's way of sending the Sabbath Message across the globe right before His Second Coming.

Others would herald it as the fulfillment of Ellen White's prophecy of a worldwide persecution of Adventists, for if a Carson presidency became unpopular, the world would rise against the SDA church in retaliation. You would then see the release of many Youtube videos claiming the Vatican was plotting the overthrow of Carson and his Sabbatarian believers.

However, in reality what would happen is that Adventist doctrines would come into the light. You would have national talk show hosts and talking heads mystified at what Adventists believe and the General Conference would be sending out spokesmen to "clarify" what their prophetess's health message and visions meant in today's world.

Think of it. Rush Limbaugh would be talking to Adventists. Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Megan Kelly would all be spotlighting Adventism. Ellen Degeneres would be talking about Ellen White. Adventism would be the butt of jokes for Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Falon, Conan O'brien, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, HBO and Comedy Central.

Doug Batchelor would be arguing homosexuality and women's ordination on James Robison's show and Randy Roberts might be interviewed by the Huffington Post. 3ABN and the Hope Channel numbers would double because of new, drive-by viewers. The SDA church would be hearing its name everywhere at first.

Then Adventists all over the world would be upset because either the press would be making them look like kooks or the SDA spokesmen would be watering down the everlasting gospel.

Many Adventists would be embarrassed as their doctrines are exposed to critical thinking and theological review and many might either leave the church or no longer claim to be SDA. However, the church would issue glorious statements that many are coming into the church because of a Carson presidential bid.

But in my dreams, SDA theology is clearly spelled out in the open and kind, godly theologians would give the true historical context of why Sunday is observed and Adventists would have to defend the indefensible. Faithful Adventists would have to put their brain into a fog of white noise to avoid hearing the truth or accept that perhaps they weren't told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Then, they might observe that no one is upset with them. They might observe that the world is full of kind Christians who would not just vote for an Adventist but would support him and even though they may reject some of his theology, they would stand up for his right to believe in Sabbatarianism.

Carson: The Commander-in-Chief

For eight years the Adventist Church would be in sublime misery, for they would get all the attention they have always wanted, but at the same time, they would be infighting about whether the president should go to this or that political event on Friday night or break the levitical clean meat laws while visiting China.

A new SDA conspiracy would come out each month and each new conspiracy would prove to be foolishness. Then as President Carson would leave the office with much admiration and honors and criticism, the Adventists would be scratching their heads wondering what happened.

Nothing.

No one would be coming after them with pitchforks. No one would be plotting their Sabbatarian martyrdom. They would find that there are millions of wonderful Christians out there who love them and accept them and care not one whit about the day they worship.

There may be another great disappointment in store for the Adventists in this dream. The great disappointment that Christians love them and will never hurt them. That there are Christians out there who understand theology and the Bible better than they do and are not deceived or breaking a commandment by not attending church on Saturday.

Adventism couldn't seclude itself from other Christians anymore. Adventists would be outed. Everyone would know what they believe, there would be no cover. People would discuss what they believe without perilous outcomes for the Adventist.

(Big breath, sigh…)

Then, my dream ends with unity.

Adventists, Baptists, Catholics, Methodists, Anglicans, non-denominational believers will beat their weapons into plowshares and embrace each other in the grace and unity of Christ and then the world will know that Jesus is the Son of God because of this miracle.

Yes, I dream big….

All because of a Dr. Carson presidency.

Wake up Teresa! SDA theology is clearly spelled out by Scripture-you know-Tota, Prima, Sola Scriptura? Of course you wouldn't understand that we are saved by grace through faith "alone" since you have left the pure Gospel long ago and opted to instead adopt a false gospel based on works (self righteousness). Who has bewitched you? Scripture and history both attest to the truth of the Sabbath as well as your false sabbath Sunday, however I have noticed you are unable to be objective and show any kind of critical thinking. In official "Church" writings and decrees your "Church" proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that it transferred (or thought to) all of the solemnity of the true Sabbath to Sunday! Seventh day Adventist's simply believe that this is unacceptable due to the fact that God alone has the authority to change His law, and He did indeed NOT do so. Your polemics is based soley on the traditions of men that Jesus Himself stated should never be taught as the law of God! (Matt. 15:9).

Arik,
Hello. We have gone round this argument many times. Blessings and best wishes.

It is true we have been "round this argument many times" and it keeps coming up due to the false statements you make regarding the Sabbath and Sunday sacredness and you have not been honest that the Catholic Church created Sunday sacredness and installed it into the Decalogue as your 3rd commandment! This is a fact that not one person, Catholic or otherwise can deny! The "fog of white noise" seems to be in your brain.
Classic example: "That there are Christians out there who understand theology and the Bible better than they do and are not deceived or breaking a commandment by not attending church on Saturday." This is hardly what Adventist's believe, and no matter how many times I try to explain it to you, you are insistent on misrepresenting the Adventist position. The issue is not and never has been what day to simply "attend church", we can and do "attend church" any day of the week, as well as worship God any and every day of the week. Even in Catholic theology/tradition regarding Sunday sacredness, it is much more than simply attending church on Sunday! So as usual not only do you continue to misrepresent the Adventist church, you ar not even honest about how your "Church" views the sacredness of Sunday. OR you are totally ignorant to the fact that in Catholicism all attributes that are given in Scripture to the Seventh Day Sabbath have been transferred (or thought to) to Sunday!

Another classic exampl: "No one would be plotting their Sabbatarian martyrdom. They would find that there are millions of wonderful Christians out there who love them and accept them and care not one whit about the day they worship. "

Adventist's do not believe that anyone will be killed for worshipping on the Sabbath. The issue in the time of trouble that has not been since the days of the beginning of time (Matt. 24) is not over Saturday/Sunday but ather who will follow the true Gospel of Jesus Christ that says we are saved by grace through faith "alone". The "sign" of those that are following Christ only will be obedience to Him, you know the natural response of someone who has been justified and renewed by grace through faith 'alone'?

Teresa,
What in the world happened to you by a member if the SDA church that made you so full of hatred that you would spew such lies?
Satan clearly has you in his grasp and I am truly sorry for that. My heart breaks for your possible loss of salvation. I find it so disturbing that you could know so many truths because of the SDA church yet you choose to walk contrary to the Word of God and purposefully set out to deceive others like the Pope. I know you know the true Sabbath day, the state of the dead, justification and sanctification, clean and unclean meat, etc. I know you know a d have seen the Catholic Church admit to changing the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Yet you would dare deceive your fellow brother and sister in Christ causing many to stumble and fall. You know what the Bible says about false prophets. It's so obvious and so Biblical this faith and doctrine.
I say shame on you for your lies and I will pray daily no one is deceived by you and Satans lies coming through your mouth.

Jessica,

I assure you with all sincerity that I have no hatred at all for Adventists. If I did, I would walk away and never look back. Why on earth would I spend time writing and thinking and praying for Adventists if I disliked them? No way. That would be a waste of my time. I am much to industrious and pragmatic for such a waste of God's gift of my life.

After I left Adventism because I started to really read scripture and discovered Adventist's unique doctrines are simply not there. It's not just that I couldn't find them... that would make them extra biblical. It is much, much worse. It is that Adventist doctrines are AGAINST scripture. Therefore I followed Christ out of Adventism. That sounds pretty crazy if you are an Adventist, I know. I was there for 38 years.... I was very involved and very excited about Adventism and Christ. I was a true Christian inside Adventism. However, to understand more of Christ I followed His commands and that meant leaving.

Now I do what I would have loved for someone to do for me. It is following the golden rule of "do unto others and you would have them do unto you." And I would have loved to have a book I could read called, "It's Okay NOT to be a Seventh-day Adventist" so I wrote it. I would loved to have had a blog like mine to ease me through the trauma of learning the truth.... the personal GREAT disappointment of discovering the truth. And discovering that the SDA church kept that from all of us. Not on purpose, of course! Each Adventist was deceived into it. Adventists are loving, kind and generous people sincerely following the truth they have been taught by authorities they trusted. No one could blame them for that. They just have blocked out truth because of two reasons: pride and fear.

They cannot look outside their worldview because they believe themselves to be the top of the Christian food chain. They believe themselves to be blessed in a special way because of the Sabbath and the "everlasting gospel" for the last days. Everyone needs them, they don't need other Christians. That is a very, very destructive pride.

They also are afraid of other Christians. They believe listening to them would open the door for deception. So they block truth.

In the end, I doubt my words will make any difference to you Jessica. Let's just keep praying for each other.
With blessings in Christ,
Teresa

Thank you, Teresa! I needed to hear this. I am a convert to Catholicism from Evangelical Protestantism. I live in a community that is close to Walla Walla University which is Adventist. Of course we get a constant reminder that they are the true christians, small c is appropriate. I know many Adventists here. I was so tired of their radio station that I turned to the Catholic radio station and found what I was looking for: Real Christianity. It was then that I came home to the Catholic Church. So even though I was not Adventist, I was listening to their radio station for it's Christian music and some speakers. Thank you again! I love Dr. Carson's message and I needed to know what to think about his Adventist beliefs. I will continue to support him and pray for him! Sincerely, June
